Passive Fire Inspections & Surveys

Passive fire inspections with Sharpfibre

Surveys to proactively identify and address fire safety risks.

Regular and thorough inspections are crucial for proactively identifying and addressing fire safety risks within buildings. Sharpfibre conducts comprehensive passive fire protection surveys in accordance with the latest legislation and 3rd party regulations for fire safety. Our team carry out passive fire surveys for a range of sectors and projects, including new builds and refurbishments, as well as occupied and live working environments. With years of hands-on experience and a wealth of industry-specific knowledge, our surveys can be tailored to clients’ various circumstances and priorities.

Compartmentation and fire door surveys

Our surveys and reports are tailored to specific circumstances and priorities.

We can assess the condition, requirements and any defects along specific compartmentation lines and fire doors (including door leaves and hardware, as well as any surrounding gaps and thresholds). This allows us to highlight any shortcomings, such as unsealed penetrations and unprotected cavities. Additionally, we can inspect existing structural fire protection solutions, such as any fire boarding, cementitious or intumescent coating solutions.

Passive fire survey reports

Our surveys will highlight any shortfalls such as unsealed penetrations, unprotected cavities, and damaged fire protection.

All of our inspections conclude with detailed reports, so clients can clearly understand their adherence to passive fire safety standards and any necessary steps to align with regulations (including any associated remediation costs).

These include the following details:

  • Date and surveyor details, as well as unique identifying numbers for a clear audit trail
  • Information regarding project location and description, with accompanying photographs
  • Required fire ratings and any required remedial actions
  • An ultimate conclusion of findings with clear cost and time estimates for improvements

A fire door survey assesses the condition and defects of the existing fire doors, such as the door leaf, door hardware, and surrounding gaps and thresholds. And a structural fire protection survey means looking at the condition and requirements of any boarding, cementitious and/or coating solutions.

Following the completion of the fire protection survey, we provide detailed reports on the current standard, as well as the necessary steps to align with regulations. The report also includes the related costs of your passive fire protection measures, as well as:

  • Location
  • Remedial action required
  • Description
  • Date and surveyor details
  • Photograph
  • Unique identifying number per item
  • Required fire rating
  • Conclusion of findings along with clear cost and time estimates

In short: we provide a comprehensive, flexible, detailed and fully accredited service to satisfy any passive fire requirements.

Some of our Recent Projects

It quickly became apparent that very few suppliers or installers could meet the huge challenges the project presented. Thankfully, due to the national importance of the project, Sharpfibre were able to meet these challenges. Installing over 13,000m2 of Durasteel and 5,500m2 of Vermiculux S to provide 4-hour compartment walls, ceilings and protection to structural steelwork in a matter of weeks.

Sharpfibre dealt with multiple design, installation and co-ordination problems throughout the project. Remarkably given the volume of work completed, the installation was of extremely high quality as observed by the multiple site inspections undertaken during installation by Etex Building Performance.

Sharpfibre were brave to even attempt a job of this scale and have delivered with merit to the benefit of national grid and the country. In our view given the scale, importance and complexity of the installation it would be extremely deserving of the award for best project of the year.

Joshua Slack National Specification Manager, Promat – Etex Building Performance Ltd

We’ve worked with Sharpfibre through 2 PCSA agreements on our £300m TQA1 project. Here they have provided technical advice on penetration seals, cavity barriers, gap seals & fire boarding across our project. Over the 18 months they have been onsite they have worked proactively to ensure compliance with manufactures tested details and resourced the job appropriately when asked. They have maintained excellent records of their works and have been a pleasure to work with. Their passion and their expertise have been much appreciated, and I’d recommend them to other principal contractors who are after a competent firestopping sub-contractor

From our initial enquiry through to the completion of the project Sharpfibre went above and beyond to ensure the project was completed on time and budget. This involved working in difficult conditions on a daily basis, and your technical support throughout the project was invaluable to ensure the works undertaken met the specification required on this project. The project commenced in November 2023 and was delivered in very tight deadline.

It is phenomenal to see the progress that has been made on the rebuild since demolition was completed in March… What really impressed me was the level of communication and cooperation you have generated… What gave me confidence today was the quality of the build I saw – no evidence that build quality is being impaired by schedule yet…
