The Barking Riverside rail extension adds 4.5km of new track to the Gospel Oak to Barking Overground line and includes a new Station at Barking Riverside.

Barking Riverside is the largest housing development in East London, with planning permission for up to 10,800 new homes, as well as healthcare, shopping, community, and leisure facilities.

In conjunction with Etex, Sharpfibre installed a project specific solution comprising of Promat PROMATECT®-250, which is a non-combustible mineral bound light weight board that gives a high degree of strength and dimensional stability. It offered a quickly installed solution for the fire protection of the Mezzanine Floors and is suitable for areas of high humidity.

One challenge to overcome was how the perimeter of the fire rated ceilings interfaced with the existing steelwork and blockwork. Sharpfibre’s final installed solution demonstrated how passive fire protection can create both a decorative and functional solution, as well providing a high level of fire protection.
