Opened in spring 2009, Docks 76 is at the heart of a true urban renewal on Rouen’s Westside. The former docklands along the river Seine have been revitalized to create homes, offices and a major leisure centre in the former warehouses. Spread over a total area of 35,800 square metres, Dock 76 comprises of a 14 screen cinema, 8 restaurants and 80 retail units all spread over three floors.

Construction work on this €85 million development began in early 2007; however it was not until July 2008 that works on the fire protection works commenced. Working in partnership with its supply chain, Sharpfibre were able to offer a solution for the fire protection works that satisfied both the clients build programme and cost plan. With the main structure constructed in reinforced concrete, it was the structural steel beams that had presented Quille with an issue in terms of fire protection. With a need to apply the fire protection without missing the critical milestones set out in the project programme, only a solution that could be applied quickly and without harming the working environment could be considered.

The solution was to mechanically apply Grace Monokote® MK-6 fire spray to the structural steelwork supporting the floors and roof. With over 21 years of experience in the application of cementitious fire sprays, Sharpfibre were able to satisfy both the programme demands as well as the modern methods of encapsulation that would be needed given the advanced condition of this project.

From beginning to end, Sharpfibre completed the fire protection application works in less than six weeks, handing back the structural steel work to Quille releasing the works for the mechanical, electrical and fit out trades to commence.
